Post qualification jobs

Hi All,

I'm just wondering what do people do once they've qualified and completed their contract.

Do people typically apply for general financial accountant roles or specific jobs such as managing receivables, payables, payroll etc?

Also - what are people's views on jobs in Internal Audit? This is something that interests me.

I'd be interested to know what people do post qualification and hopefully get a few ideas on what to do myself! I've no idea at this stage!

Well of the 8 people I still have contact with from my intake at a certain big 4 firm:

- 1 sheep farmer in north Donegal (originally from the inner city, Dublin)
- 1 turned pro as a cricket player (now retired)
- 1 became a professional musician (only learned to play after qualifying)
- 1 became a college professor in marketing in US
- 1 freelance software engineer and technical author (me)
- 3 remained in the profession

I qualified in 2009 and everyone who qualified with me (big 4 firm) is still working as accountants. Most as Financial Accountants / Finance Managers but a few have gone into Internal Audit and one remains in practice.

Straight out of practice in May 2010 once contract was up. Took that summer off and then went volunteering and working with NGOs in Financial Accounting roles for two years and now in a financial and management accounting role in Dublin in software.

Wouldn't go back to practice.
