howdy all, sorry if this is the wrong place for this..
Im getting prank calls, silly them are calling from a landline so i have the number, when i ring back they hang up..

I know once upon a time you could call directory enquires and give them the number and they would give you the address.. do they still do that?

Or does anyone have an idea how one might get the address?

    Mucho Thanks :)

Next time they ring, follow the telephone line. It will lead you straight to their house.

Why, are you going to murder them in their sleep?

Easiest way OP is to just get out the phonebook and start checking the numbers against your prankster. You'll find it in no time.

I don't think directory enquiries ever gave addresses out for numbers. The only people with that ability are the Gardai. If the calls are malicious report them to the Gardai. If not suck it up or change your number.

Share the number so we can all prank them back.

I got a funny kind of call last week. The silly woman on the line must have thought she was ringing Met Eireann cos she asked if the coast was clear :) .

Ring the number from a different phone, then with a fake Indian accent, tell them there is something wrong with their PC and you need them to turn it on.

They will probably engage in some form of conversation to get you off the line so you might recognise the voice, if not, just tell them that if they ever prank call you again you now have their address and you will set fire to kittens* and throw them through their front window.

*This will obviously be untrue of course as that would be cruel. Kittens would just bounce off double glazing so obviously it'd have to be a badger you will throw.

Go on the lash a lot over Christmas and call that number every night when you get home at 2am.

Another way is to climb the highest mountain near you in the middle of the night with a big massive telescope. Then ring the number while sweeping the area with your telescope. Whenever you see a light come on in a house, that's your caller.

    So what's the prank?

Take out an advert in the adult personals giving that phone number, that should keep him busy instead of ring you

I feel bad that I used to prank people with friends when I was a child.
I feel worse that I'm pretty sure it was inspired by Bart Simpson.
    Sorry Moes :(

Telephone lines connect from house to house. When someone rings, follow the line and it will lead you right to them.

Are you sure it's not kids messing?
Put it on Facebook and see if anyone recognises it, or ask your friends to ring it

I wonder why the yanks call them "crank calls".

    Did they just mishear it?

Its a guess, but maybe its because you "wind up" the other person.
