Would anybody have an idea on how golf membership works? I am looking at getting my dad one for Christmas, I know his last membership was for a golf club he had never been in it was just cheap and cheerful.. He once said something about having to have a membership somewhere on ireland to play.. hes not a big golf player, if he was id pay more to get him a membership close by,but he only plays about 20 to 30 times a year... any information would be a great help! Clueless here!

You'll get a better answer if you know,

    Courses he plays most regular
Type of course (parkland or links)
Part of country he wants to play in
    Budget
Age (some clubs ask less for those over a certain age)

Theres also a few different types of membership. If he wanted to continue playing at 20-30 times a year perhaps a cheaper 3day/5day or distance membership over the full would suit him better and keep cost down.

Where in Ireland do you want to get membership.
There are great deals around and it sounds like 5 day would suit your Dad.
Have a look at GUI website.
