I'm looking for something similar to Bill Byrsons 'A Short History of Nearly Everything'.

His book is pretty much what I'm looking for if it were in a kind of A-Z or Reference Guide style.

I had an encyclopedia when I was a child and it was in a Q & A format, is there anything like that nowadays in an adult version that goes through say all the monarchs of England and the history of the Universe and capital cities and the like.

Try "1066 and All That" by Sellar and Yeatman
