    Hello people,

I'm a senior freshman student in the School of Science, Engineering and Mathematics. I really do enjoy my course but due to a number of personal (and medical) reasons I have been unable to concentrate from the beginning of the semester.

Ideally I would like to withdraw and return to second year in September 2014 after I put things straight.

However, I have a few questions:
    • If I do withdraw, will I get any of the student contribution back (around 2500 quid)?
    • If I do withdraw, will I have to pay tuition fees next year?
    • Will I be able to apply for the Schols next year?

    Thanks in advance!!

Contact your tutor, or the senior tutors office. They will steer you right.

Absolutely contact your tutor. When I wanted to leave Trinity altogether, mine helped me do so.

As said talk to your tutor and they will help you with these issues, lots of students go 'off books' for a year so they're used to handling these things :)

Regarding schols I can tell you there should be no problem with you sitting them when you return to second year next year as you haven't sat them yet this year. Make sure if you've applied to sit them this year to contact the Senior Lecturer to inform them of your situation and withdraw from the exams. Your tutor can help you do that too.

    Best of luck with everything!

My understanding is that, if you withdraw before the the end of Jan, you will be refunded half your Student Contribution, and will qualify for "free fees" next year - i.e. you will not have to pay tuition fees. Hope everything works out.
