The trailer out now for latest Paul WS Anderson's new film (btw no sign of Milla in it) Pompeii (Gladiator meets Volcano) Kiefer Sutherland is playing the villain could be the movie's only saving grace with Kit's abs :p

Thousands drowned in Pompeii, just not in water.

Seeing tidal waves in the trailer and chucks of city dropping into the sea.

Think that one Trinity from the Matrix is in it. Might be allright with some costume.

Thought it was a good popcorn film with some good special effects, sets and costume, storyline was paper thin though - no great surprise really. Met my low expectations. Would consider it a 6/10.

Did the job to pass the time but it's a forgettable film with some truly horribly cheesy moments, logic is thrown out the window, and real hammy acting.

    same here.

i was expecting this to be utter pants but had a good time at it. its a good popcorn muncher, it looks great, and the cast make it better than it should.

i really liked jared harris in this, and sutherland was clearly having a blast playing a bastard

i hadnt a clue that this was directed by the same bloke that did resident evil and in fairness to him he restrains himself admirably here, only really devolving into over the top effects works in the final section of the film. i went to the 2D version so cant comment on the 3D but it certainly looked like its set up to expoit that format. but even in 2D I got a laugh out of certain set peices
the long boat in the streets for instance and everyone legging it from it.

this is now two "Crap" films thatve surprised me in as many weeks (after trancendence)

    a good 6/10.

if your the lad dragged to this by your girlfriend your the one thatll prob enjoy it more.

This is possibly one of the worse films ever, avoid at all costs. The dialogue would insult a 5 year old and the acting is as wooden as a piece of wood.
As for Sutherland's accent, wtf just wtf

    Mind numbingly boring.

Not the worst, but far from the best. Not alot new in the film that you haven't seen elsewhere before. Think 5-6/10 is a fair score.

Awful movie, although 'John Snow' was looking unbelievably ripped!!!!
Ah it's watchable I guess, there is a particularly hilarious part where one of the extras get creamed by a falling rock and falls like a sack of potatoes, god I laughed a lot, watched that part back about 5 times.

I didnt think it was so bad I was wishing I was watching anything else, you can zone out and enjoy the effects. Although some of the shots where they have actors in front of CGI are pretty obvious. Just a lightweight story which wasnt given any real depth.

Was a pity it wasn't more, but great to see a sand and sandals ditch the slow mo for fight scenes, makes such a difference.

Watchable and enjoyed it, but wouldn't class it anything more than decent

Saw this last night and enjoyed it for what it is, a big dumb, FX ladden low brow romp. It's basically Gladiator meets a dozen other period films and as such everyone treats the material with the level of respect you'd assume. The acting is diabolical with most of the cast coming across as more wooden than the splinter of wood used to pick a lock at one stage. Sutherland in particular is woefully miscast and his accent is something that has to be heard, well that is in the scenes where he isn't required to shout and loses it entirely.

Everything here feels lifted from better films with the whole gladiatorial plot being ripped directly from Gladiator, I half expected our hero to deliver a "son of a murdered father" speech. I suppose that it could be argued that most are there for the FX and Pompeii does look good, particular so when you consider that it was shot for 80 million. Every single cent is onscreen and once the mayhem starts it really does become something to feat your eyes on. Sadly everything else is a waste of time and it all feels like a missed opportunity, with a decent story there really is the potential for an interesting action film set during the Pompeii tragedy
