Maternity benefit, tax back etc.

So we're due to have a baby around June next year. I'm on the BTEA but that will be finished by then. My wife is on contract work so she won't be paid maternity from her employer once she's finished there. What would we be entitled to come June if I don't secure a job?

We need to figure out how much we'll need to save to meet the mortgage and live fairly comfortable.

I've read that maternity is around €230 from January, when the baby comes I presume the children's allowance thing starts from then? Which is €130 a month.

It's a bit confusing but I think I get a reduced rate of dole but I need clarity on that, I'm means tested when and not entitled to anything when my wife is working.
The other thing is will we be able to claim the tax back if my wife doesn't go back to work for the rest of the year on what she's paid up until June? I understand they calculate it for the year so we might be due something back? And do we have to wait until the end of the year to do so?

    Sorry about the long post!
    Any help would be great!

If you apply for JSA after your BTEA finishes, then you will get €188 plus (29.80/2=14.90) for baby.

It says on the Maternity benefit form that if your spouse if earning less than €300 per week apply for an increased rate of maternity benefit, but we did and we were told €262 (at the time) was the max!

When her maternity leave finishes, your payment should go to €188 + €29.80 +€124 for the family.

This is based on there being no other kids already and no massive savings etc.
