It probably took him 4 years to write this :pac:

Ian Glen reading it though? Might have to get the audio book if he does it in his silky Jorah voice.

I'd be interested to see what it covers, the giving of the gift and when that Targaeryan Queen visited the wall with her dragon maybe?

As far as I know we've already heard this story in aDWD. It's the story that aDWD gets it's name from.

Looking at the comments on A Forum of Ice and Fire, it seems so.
And the reaction to it seems quite positive, can't wait to read it.

Im seriously considering the audio book - given that its read by Ser Jorah....

Downloaded it last night and ploughed through it. Really it leaves more questions than answers but it does give some insight into what we can expect later in the series as Dany's dragons grow and become used in warfare.

    Audio book or e-reader file?

Didn't think it was available in either to be honest.

Tried to get it in itunes but not available in Irish store.

    e-reader.

It's more an info-dump than anything else and has left me almost *more* confused about the history of House Targaryen! It does seem to confirm one important thing though:
you don't have to be a Targaryen to bond with a dragon though having some of their blood helps your chances

Must try and get it so, currently half way through The Mystery Knight, and I will need more after this, loving these wee stories.

Does that mean Kindle? I wonder if there are any options for an ipad.

Honestly username123, I downloaded it from a less than legitimate source so can't really give details of how it ended up on my Kindle on this forum.

What's the mystery knight? Is that a dunk and egg? I take it they're worth a read so?

The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and the Mystery Knight are the 3 Dunk & Egg stories.

    Absolutely class!

The She-wolves of Winterfell is supposed to the the 4th book in the series, no sign yet, possibly delayed due to the release of this Queen/Princess one.

Certainly delayed due to this one... The She-Wolves of Winterfell was supposed to be GRRM's contribution to Dangerous Women.

Call it wishful thinking but I know he was working on the story of the Dance of Dragons for the World of Ice and Fire book, and it's not outside of the bounds of possibility that some of this will be relevant for TWOW so I'd say it's quite likely that he simply fleshed out some of his notes for that as a faster alternative to producing a new Dunk & Egg novella in order to spend less time away from TWOW...

It's certainly rough around the edges enough for that to make sense to me.

The She Wolves of Winterfell was supposed to be published by now but Martin got caught up in this novella and the other history of Westeros book.

The Dunk & Egg books are worth a read although they're difficult to get through legitimate sources. Rumour is that they'll be the basis of a HBO spin off series because of the recent deal made with Martin.

The legitimate sources are all listed here:

There are a huge amount of non legitimate copies floating about.

It was EPIC. I loved it. I read it far too fast, need to read it again more slowly.

Now cmon with Winds of Winter George!!

This isn't actually true. The premise of the novella is the Dance of the Dragons, an internecine fued in the Targaryen dynasty. A Dance with Dragons has nothing to do with it really other than sounding similar.
It may have been mentioned in passing in ADWD due to the re-emmergence of dragons with the dance of the dragons being the beginning of the end for dragons previously, but I don't think it has any real connection other than GRRM liking the way that Dance and Dragons sound together
. Spoilering that just in case, but if you have read through the rest of the ASOIAF series it shouldn't really be news to you. I was one of the lucky ones that Amazon actually sent a copy to prior to the official release date. It is interesting in that it gives a bit of insight into the Targaryen history along with several other characters that are briefly mentioned in the ASOIAF books (e.g. Lord Commander of the White Swords Criston Cole, the Kingmaker). Dragons are also very prevelant in it.

I reckon I could have a bloody degree in this book series at this stage. Never studied anyhting as closely in all my life!

I know what you mean maccasarlaigh, I'd at least have a diploma in ASOIAF at this stage!

    Read it.

Its more of an info dump than anything else. Some bits are great and its worth a read.

I felt there were too many dragons, and too many fights between dragons, and they all seemed to the same.

Plus the amount of fecking Targs and their similar names, its hard to keep up, even for the author and editors as they got a few names wrong in places, I only noticed cause it confused me further.

You can get a kindle app for your iPad and order a kindle version.

I just finished it this morning and on first read I found it difficult keeping track of who was whom.

I couldn't look online in case I got spoiled on the story.

But i think it's definitely something I'll enjoy more after reading around it and listening to a few podcasts.
