It appears that its no longer possible to drive onto Westland Row from Leinster Street South via Lincoln Place during peak hours, both lanes appear to have been converted into coach parking / dedicated bus lanes. That said, both lanes were packed with cars yesterday evening so it was unclear in this is the case or not. Any takers?

Is this being closed to non-PSVs as part of Luas Cross City? Dawson St beyond Westmoreland St is AFAIK.

The main (24hour as required)vehicular access to TCD is on Lincoln Place, wonder how that factors in.

Yes it is indeed interesting, particularly as the LED Signage on Stephens Green informs motorists that the new Right Turn into Merrion Row will deliver them safely into Pearse Street.....

At some point in time,Dublins Traffic Authorities will eventually be FORCED to admit that as it currently stands there is NOT ENOUGH SPACE to maintain unrestricted vehicular access to the City Centre.

The current policy appears to focus upon these Authorities maintaining the fallacy that everything is grand....just grand....;)

I would think that the City Council are being very careful not to vex retailers/businesses as they wouldn't want them to have any excuse to complain about rates. Reducing footfall in the city centre would certainly annoy retailers. Whether you believe that banning cars would achieve that or not is another question. Never underestimate the law of unintended consequences. City centre retailers don't want any more leakage to the suburbs.

I suspect that the harassment people suffer from the charity industry is more likely to keep them away from the city centre than the traffic arrangements.

I presume you mean Molesworth St, I wouldn't like to be dragged by the goolies from Dawson St. to Westmoreland St.

That AND the worsening situation in and around O Connell St/Abbey Street/North Earl St which now rarely sees a day pass without several nasty violent outbursts.

I don't tend to worry as much about personal belongings in Dundrum centre. Clientele or private property with good security?

Correct. Can never seem to get them two the right way around.

Perhaps the answer to this question is obvious but are non PSV traffic procluded from using this stretch @ Lincoln place? The signage and road markings would certainly infer that this is the case but vehicular traffic still uses this road as if nothing has changed

And,we have a City Administration which will resist to the bitter end any suggestion of deploying Gardai or any other human element to actually enforce the NEW arrangement.......The common response will be..."Well nobody told ME about it" !!

See earlier post. It is not PSV only.

But the road markings say otherwise, and these markings were recently put down, at about the same time this diversionary route came into effect. It makes no sense. Are they signs on the street telling drivers they can ignore the markings?

I've seen the markings on the road and I would have come to the same conclusion as yourself, except the plans from DCC say differently. The plans from DCC are more logical than what the road markings would imply. I'm going to give the benefit of doubt to the plans from DCC and assume some level of sense.

BTW, does it actually say Bus Lane on the lane or is it just a thick continuous white line? I seem to recall the latter.

Nope balooba, after a brief period when it was assumed the narrow lane on the offside was the Bus-Lane,it transpired that the Lána-Bus/Bus Lane text was placed on the Wider Nearside lane....unless ,of course it was all a dreadful mistake...??????

Experience tells me that assumptions of good sense emanating from DCC are oft to be found erroneous.....:o

It looks to me that it is open to all traffic but that private vehicles should over on the right hand side up to the lights were they should merge to turn down Westland row. However they will of course be holding up the buses that now have to use Lincoln place to get to merrion square now that the right turn from clare street is gone. Seems it was done to facilitate coach parking, nice !!!!!

Yes it is nice,is'nt it cdebru...such a lovely non-linear use of road markings too...highly artistic and totally in keeping with it's location close to the National Gallery annex.

It simpy HAS to be of artistic intent,as it is difficult to apply any Traffic Management logic to the unusual and individualistic "merging" of the General Traffic and Bus Lanes atop Westland Row......then again perhaps we simplay are not broadminded enough..? ;)

The pearse street end of Westland row is better the planners giveth and they taketh away. A bus lane not wide enough to fit a bus in as it shrinks to fit to other traffic lanes.

Had a look today, there are signs saying no access at peak times(7-10;16-19), so in effect is this a mini bus gate? Is that being obeyed by private cars at peak times?

Communication has been outstanding if that is the case.

Actually, apologies, I have it wrong, it was a sign with the "Clearway" 'red x in circle', so that means no parking at the specified hours? Sorry, I don't drive, misinterpreted the road sign.

Typically DCC have some kind of public consultation if making changes. Cant find anything on the DCC website.

My gut feeling is that they will redraw the buslane as it does not make sense.

As John Gilligan recently said.."It was a bit of a Halloween prank, just a little late"....

I wonder again,if any of the Senior Administrators involved in this stuff are in receipt of Salary Top-Up's ?????? :(

Perhaps the annual budget for road paint had a few bob left they had to use up....
