Hi , any plumbers out there that might help. I'm presently planning to upgrade my heating system by adding a few controls. I'm fitting a cylender stat and valve to controle the temp, in the cylener. My question is, does it matter whither I fit the valve on the flow in to the top of the coil or out of the return from the coil. It would be easier for me to fit it on the return near the tank as I'm caught for space at the top between the tank and the vent pipe. Any advice would be appreciated.

Generally fitted to the flow but I cannot see a problem with fitting one on the return.

Thanks for that, it certainly would make my job a lot easier.

If the stat is to control the temperature of the water within the cylinder, it should not be located on a pipe. You require a cylinder stat & it should be located on the cylinder 1/3 from the bottom. You may need to cut away a small piece of the insulation the size of the stat as it needs a metal to metal contact.

Yes I intend to use a cylender Stat, My query was re the location of the motorised valve which will be controlad by the stat, are you happy enough that it can be on either side of the coil ??.

Yes it doesn't matter which side. I personally put them on the return when I can because of the slightly cooler temperature but it shouldn't really matter

    Sorry misread your post.
Yes it doesn't matter which one but if it is an open vented system, make sure it does not block the vent or the expansion pipes.
