Car insurance company cancelled policy

    Hi,

Im looking for some advice and I know im the one in the wrong so would appreciate the best advice possible.

Basically I took out a policy on my car and paid for the year upfront. Now I do owe money on an ex policy from another company.

My current policy required me to forward my old no claims policy (9 years) to them, but since I owe the ex company money, I didnt forward it to them. This is incredibly stupid I understand but I couldn't afford to pay them back in full.

I paid that money off today. And my policy is finished tomorrow.

Is there anything I can do to avoid my cancellation? Like if I call them and tell them I am just waiting on my documents and will have them in later this week.

    Thanks!

Ring them and ask - they're the only ones who can answer your question.

    +1

Pick up the phone, explain that there will be a slight delay and see what they say.

Was the previous policy cancelled due to non payment ? If so, did you declare this to the new insurer ?

If not, be careful how you word it over the phone as they all carry the standard 'cancellation disclosure clause' and you may find the new one also cancelled due to non disclosure.

" Have you or any driver had an insurance proposal or renewal declined or policy cancelled or subject to any increased premium or special conditions?"

OP states that the policy finishes tomorrow though which would lead you to believe it still active.

What is the solution to this problem if your insurance cancel your policy based on non disclosure of cancelled policy? My cancelled policy was based on that the agent i used to set up my insurance was not authorized by them. Will Ombudsman look into this?

Ring and ask, tell them (some of ) the circumstances. At this stage, you don't have a cancelled policy and your old policy is finishing fully paid up. Just tell your new company that there was a problem that has now been resolved and you'll get the no claims evidence to them in a few days time.
