    As someone with more than a passing interest in Egyptology,I was saddened to read recently of the theft of more than a thousand artefacts from the Mallawi City museum,in central Egypt,during the civil unrest there in August of this year:

    I'm not sure if anyone saw the documentary on Channel 4 recently(Unreported World:Egypt's Tomb Raiders) which highlighted the increasing problem of the looting of artefacts and the vandalism of ancient monuments in Egypt.If you have an interest in archaeology further afield and have 25 minutes to kill,I'd highly recommend watching this:

    This rather sad state of affairs in Egypt has opened up a wider debate and that is,can the Egyptian authorities,who clearly cannot protect what they have,insist that other priceless artefacts now residing in the great museums of the world - the Rosetta Stone,London;the bust of Nefertiti,Berlin;etc., - be repatriated to Egypt?
