    Hi

In January, I will be going to Vienna to meet up with my sister. I have a few questions about skiing which you might be able to help me with:

1: Can you simply arrive at a ski resort, get all the equipment needed there, and go skiing, or do you need to book things first?

2: How much would the above cost, roughly?

3: Where is the best skiing location relatively near to Vienna for beginners.

    Thanks for any help

In terms of booking etc, if you want lessons it would probably be best to book in advance, for rental gear you could probably just wander in on the day and pick it up but again best if you book in advance.

Cost will be how much it costs to get there, lift pass € 30- 45 depending on resort and lessons for a day are probably around the €50 price pp. Food on the hill in Austria € 8-15 for a substantial Lunch feed. Then whatever you spend on Apres!

Hockar – is 2 hours from Vienna and the biggest resort close to the city, it is an Austrian team training base so good facilities, decent terrain and enough to keep you occupied for a weekend. Not much in the way of Apres or life in the village (More of a base station than village)

Semmering is about an hour from Vienna small and basic but for a beginner it is meant to be ok

    Thanks for the info.

I will only be going skiing for one day. Hochkar looks very good. I'm not too bothered by night life, as I will be going back to Vienna the evening after anyway
