How do i stop my optical mouse stop moving all over the screen?

I have an optical mouse, but how can i stop it moving independently by itself, as its a bit of a nuisance at times. I have a cloth mousepad with a wrist cushion, as i got RSI a lot in which it locked up my wrist. Its one of those you get in the € shops.

Try a difference surface. Some surfaces (usually shiny things) may make it go nuts.

If problem persists get another mouse, it should not behave like this.

Regarding ergonomics, try raising your chair.
