Most policys for instructors car cover a student if:

    1) They are accompanied i.e. The tester
    2) They have the permission of the instructor.

So, thats a Yes. But the best person to ask is the instructor themselves :pac:

Nope, the instructor has insurance to cover learners. All you have to do is get in and drive, ohh and the small matter of the cost :pac:

Most range from €30 - €40 per lesson, but usually if you pay upfront for all 12 you can get a discount.

The discount for up front payment will be pittance also if you don't get on with the instructor or he/she isn't great at lessons you are stuck with him/her :(

Ya that's the only downside to it. My brother recently completed his 12 lessons, if he was to pay for each separately, they were €35, but paying for all 12 together worked out at €30 per lesson. That's a saving of a fiver a lesson, €60 in total...

When you pay by the lesson you tell them when you want a lesson by paying up front they will tell you when you need a lesson

Thread moved to learning to drive.

You can do as many lessons as you like! You must complete 12 EDT lessons however.

How much does it cost on average to hire out the instructor's car for the test?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 239 ✭✭I can't tell you why

@ Mikeyalma: You definitely will be insured driving an instructors car. There are discounts for buying the bundle of lessons. What I usually suggest is have the cost of one lesson in one pocket. If you don't really like the ADI pay for the one hour and say good bye. In the other pocket have the full amount for the 12. If you think the ADI is good, buy the 12 at the discounted price. You can always book the lessons as and when you want them, within reason. They are your lessons to take when it suits you.

@ pog it: Using an ADIs car for the test can be anything from 80 up. Many ADIs will insist that you take a certain number of lessons before using there car for the test. This does increase the cost. But also your chances of passing.

PS: They are your lessons. You take them within reason, when you want. Find out the ADIs working hours before booking to be sure you can get times that suit you.
