Similar thread a week or two ago. I've never been so can't recommend anything other than to say I almost went this year and it's supposed to be good.

Depends on what you are looking for.
Its a great place to ski (it was my first time) went from a newbie to skiing down reds by the end of the week (also a black but wouldnt say i skiied down more went down snails pace)

There was about 7 guys in our group (all irish) up for a good laugh.
We went in February a few years ago and I have to say the nightlife/apres ski was awful.
We gave it our all but thought the atmosphere was poor enough.
WE heard about this place called Crazy Daisy which was suppsoe to be good for apres ski, maybe 1 night there was a nice crowd the rest was like goign for a couple of casual beers.

WE intended to hit the town hard on the beer after our skiing for the week but we thought the nightlife was so poor we stayed in our apt and had a few beers ourselves half the nights.

So for skiing a great place but for nightlife...closer to ****elife

I don't advocate (heavy) drinking and snowboarding /skiing, but I used to LOVE going to the bar at the very top of the ski area (it's on the peak of the main mountain) in Zell at around 4pm, having one or two beers, putting on the headphones (Fatboy Slim, Sunset (Bird of Prey) usually) and cruising down to the town at about 4:30pm, the slopes would be completely empty and the trip takes about 15-20 minutes. A fantastic experience. :D

[edit] Schmittenbobe is the name of the mountain according to the piste map I just checked

cormee: Everything in moderation, I know plenty of people who would have more issue with the headphones than the 2 beers!!! Personally I rarely if ever do it but I have on occasion when it has suited.
The Best end of day beer I ever had was after an Epic day skiing powder in Revelstoke!

Ah! Let's not be hasty here! There are plenty of things that shouldn't be done in moderation, just not on a slope.

Or stay up there longer and ski down by moonlight. Special feeling.
Another possibility, if you're an early riser. Theres a cablecar run to the hotel on the Schmittenhohe about 20 mins befre the official lift opening. Its to bring the staff up but you "may" be allowed on, especially if you ask nicely. If you do you get a top to bottom run on freshly groomed slopes and an entire resort to yourself.;)

There is nothing like the feeling of skiing by moonlight- esp on a full moon :-)

You can do the Valle Blanche under moonlight with the ESF in Chamonix, they only do it for full moon nights and it is absolutley one of the best things I have ever done on skis!
