    Was going through some eq and want to get an effect on the track that mirrors what i'm hearing via play back when i'm sweeping with the eq settings.

    so I have an idea but if anyone could just confirm this is the best way to go about it it'd be awesome.

    Track--->Aux Input--->Aux Output--->New Track.

    So bring the recorded track via an aux track into a new track and print the effect as its playing?

    why not write automation on the parameter you are changing? You can then edit the automation until the effect sits perfectly in the mix
