Cost to replace two motorised valves

Hi, a friend of mine just moved into a new apartment. She is the owner. Since she moved in, she noticed that the heating was on all the time. At first, we thought it was something to do with the thermostat settings, so we were changing them to try and fix the problem but with no luck. She contacted the service engineers for the complex and they came and said the motorised valve was locked in the open position so water was flowing constantly. They recommended replacing both motorised valves and the bypass as well. They estimated a price around 450 euro. Does this sound right for this kind of job? I really don't know the normal prices for this kind of job. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Chris

See if the MV's are in the manual position. There is a slider on the end of the valve. Make sure it is located in the Auto position.
I would doubt both MV's are faulty with the exact same fault. If they are in the manual position, they would permanently call in the boiler.

Thanks for your reply. I will have a look when i am next over at her place. Apart from that, would you know if the figure quoted sounds reasonable if those things do need to be replaced. Thanks

She should try an independent Plumber.

Sounds a bit on the high side. Myson valves are the most expensive and they would be about €70 each. So if they are the most expensive ones there is only about €140 worth of materials & the rest is labour to drain the system, fit the valves & re-wire them.

However, if it is just the actuator, the system would not have to be drained. An hour or so labour would replace the actuators. Some MV's do not have detachable heads & would require a full valve replacement.

I still think the bill will be zero and the actuators are in the manual position.

Both my myson valves failed, I opened them up and a soldered joint was loose, so I just soldered the wire back on and they are working fine, that was 3 years ago and still going strong.
