I want to be able to get connected but I want to restrict other users in the house...can I change password or something like that so only I will know it and they will have to beat it out of me before I divulge the new one. :D

Lock the computer rather than the internet.

I want to be able to stop access through phones, laptops etc.

Buy a router that has family controls on it. You can even block some websites at specific times like no Facebook between 8pm and 8am.

Get a good porn filter too as you have teenage sons. ;)

    Great thank you.

Just get a wifi modem and don't tell anyone the password.

Most wifi routers are password protected anyway so pick a difficult password (as in don't use "Password" as the password and 12345678 cannot be an option either).

You can block mac addresses, but you need to get your hands on all the laptops/phones/tablets to find out the MAC addresses 1st :)

A decent router would allow to permit/deny MAC addresses (the ID of a phone for example.

Bear in mind many kids have 3G access through their phone data service.

However, the most effective way to deal with teenage internet use is to talk to them. (and keep logs of what is seen, if you see porn and don't want them looking at it - talk to them)

If I got a new network security key they would have to enter that into all devices would they not..would that work?

You could change the password to one that only you know, or you could enable MAC address filtering (slightly more complicated). Neither way is foolproof and can bypassed in under 5 minutes simply by using an ethernet cable.

So, in addition to the above, you need to change the administrator password and keep it to yourself. Even that isn't 100% foolproof.

No you don't. The router (a decent one) will log the MAC addresses.

Can I ask why you are trying to block access completely?

It is not because of what they are seeing ..I know what they are seeing it is because of poor exam results and until improvements are made no net.

True but if it only logs MAC addresses and he only wants to block say his kids and not his wife etc, then he'll need to figure out which MAC address is which.. Although he can just check the ones he wants to allow.. Never mind :)

    Is there a model number?

Also - could I suggest limiting the net rather than no net? Say 1 hour a day. Kids are very socialised on the net these days...you are basically grounding them socially.

Pull out the Electrical Plug, don't let them plug it in again until restrictions lifted

Caustic - open a new tab and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.

EDIT - better yet PM me a phone number and I'll talk you through it...
