Nissan Micra 2001- can someone tell me what this is ?

This plastic toggle is at the back of the drivers seat. The only purpose I can figure out for it is to hang my birds knickers on... Anything heavier and it would break.

Can someone tell me what it is exactly ?

No clue, some sort of clothes hook thingimajig? Does it push in?

It's a coat hook, just like the "curry" hook older Almeras had but turned the other way.

its too low down on the door to be hanging anything. and its only on the back of the driver seat. plus its too weak (in my opinion) to be tying or hanging anything onto it.

it doesnt push in. it flips out,

'your bird' mush have some fairly big heavy knickers then...

any chance its for keepin your shopping upright when its in the back footwell? not to actualy hang it from, jst to stop a bag from falling over?

ooh and make up your mind, isit on the door or seat? and a better picture would be helpfull in solving this conundrum :L

    dems fightin words :pac:

I think the curry hook idea is valid.... I just never expected the Japanese to think up such a thing ...its not strong but it could conceivably hold the top of a curry bag and stop it from spilling over....

Yeah I've heard these being referred to as curry hooks before....

Had one in my Primera I think, very handy indeed. Now if they'd only included a heated compartment to keep it warm as well, I'd be very happy :)

Its a handbag holder not a curry holder. stops the handbag sliding across the floor.

My missus' K12 (2006) has a folding hook just to the left of the radio for bags, I've used it once or twice to keep bags of take out Chinese food from toppling over. There's also a storage bin in the passenger seat to put a handbag in (has having it in the passenger footwell might as well scream "break my window and steal me, go on")

I naturally assumed that anything done to the design of a car would

    1) cost money to design , check out and finally implement

    2) be only done if it could be used to sell the car

and with this in mind , the ''curry hook'' while being interesting and possibly useful was nowhere near the top reasons to purchase a Micra
(but probably not that useful to me if I have to get out of my driver seat and mess around with it in the back seat).

I just cant see consumers agonising between 2 different cars and then thinking ''OMGAWD MUST HAVE CURRY HOOK''

So in that respect I was blindsided by this thing costing money with potentially no return for Nissan... especially because it's located behind the driver seat. Assuming there are passengers, in the back seats where footroom is scarce they can usually just hold their own bags because they dont have to hold steering wheels or a gearstick etc ( and only one of them has a hook on their side anyway). If its just a solitary driver then its damn awkward to reach back to where the hook is located.....

Remove it so and see who's laughing when you're eating your curry off the floor of the car :pac:

More importantly though, it wouldn't work for me as I need to have easy access to the curry bag at all times on the way home in order to eat the snacks I ordered for the journey :D

ahh, theres the problem.. you "assumed" :P

its a handy hook behind your drivers seat to stop your bag sliding round. that is all, no more, no less..

may i add its more than likly placed behind the driver seat to prevent you from rooting in your handbag.. plus it frees up abit of space for your "birds" feet, ya kno, so she wont be standing on your handbag and what not.

Nissan realised that grown men would need somewhere to hang their dignity before getting behind the steering wheel of a Micra.:D:D

As already said: it's for your handbag. I know this for sure but I can't remember how or why. If you don't have a handbag you shouldn't be driving a Micra.

Cheap gas, unbelieveable reliability (I drove the crap out of her for the last year and did 15km and she still passed the nct no bother with only an ''advisory'' on the tyres) and a minimum of road tax and insurance on my 1 litre engine seems to act as a buffer between my hurt feelings and the wiseguys on this thread :D

I'm allowed slag off the Micra as many moons ago I clocked up some mileage in one(wife's first car), and I hated it with a passion.
But you're right - it was reliable, cheap to run and was actually a good car to learn basic maintenance on.

When the mk2 almera came out, every review mentioned three things~ the curry hook, the 'secret' compartment under the cupholders, and the 'surf tail' (the little dip in the roof at the back)

Its a truly unremarkable car but i reckon the hook and compartment were just token gestures to keep the press awake.
A bit like the parking ticket holder or umbrella in skodas

Mazda 323 had a passenger seat that folded completely flat. Demio had ability to make a bed out of the seats. Same idea. Maybe the Japanese market goes in for that sort of thing.

Don't mind me either, I know what that hook is for because I have an Almera, besides I like small cars which is probably because my first car ever was a 1963 Mini.
