    Hello,

I have a level 8 electrical and electronic engineering degree from UCC.

I'm currently working as an electronic in Ireland for the past 2 years.

I'm considering leaving Ireland and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the electrical and electronic engineering jobs are like in New Zealand and Australia.

Is there much electrical or electronic engineering job available?

What are the working conditions like compared to here in Ireland?

What is the pay like compared to here in Ireland?

Although I have 2 years experience as an electronic engineer I'm perfectly happy to work in the electrical area if the work is interesting, money good etc.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

You can do a search on Seek for both Oz and Nz to see what the job market is currently like
    http://www.seek.com.au/
Also look on Trademe.co.nz for the Nz side of things.

    Thanks for the link!

I was hoping to get a reply from someone who actually went out to New Zealand/Australia working as an engineer. Get an idea of what it's like to work out there!

I been working as an electronics Engineer in Australia for about 9 years, there's plenty of work about if you have the right status.

It all depends on where your experience is, personally I work as Hardware Engineer in medical Diagnostics and Nuclear Medicine which is quite specialised but essentially it's like a service engineer doing maintenance, repairs and installations. A lot of my work is Sydney but there are a lot of hospitals and medical centres in regional areas that is Fly-in-fly-out or interstate when required.

Moneywise from personal experience with a bit of OT and Allowances $120K -$140k PA, in other engineering industries if are you are any good a $100K start - what I believe is $120K average for 37hr week office based but you are talking about having unrestricted rights like a citizen or Permanent resident.

If you are thinking of coming on a working holiday visa or some sort of temporary work visa then expect to have your pants pulled down as recently the value of those would be less than toilet paper.

If you are serious you need to make a worthwhile investment in time and money on a proper visa and not expect too much but rather build up 'Local Experience' to make the best of it.

In terms of lifestyle Australia is hard to beat if you like the outdoor life 4x4 & boating etc.

I'll second all that. It's like everything/everywhere else in life: hard work is the only route to success. But Australia is a fantastic country to work hard in. And it is beautiful, too, and that often gets overlooked. :)
