I need to map network points in a building and the current labeling is fairly crappy. so are correct but other are not so need to re check each one.

the best way i can think of is using a tone tester to locate the cables on the patch panel.

is there a better way then this? if so please enlighten me.

Have you ever heard of CDPR? http://sourceforge.net/projects/cdpr/

You connect a cable @ the port, run CDPR and it will tell you exactly which port on which switch it is connected to. Lifesaver it is.

It works with them all, we've used it on plenty of different ones.
