    :(:(Hi
Any help or advice, and I know I should not have driven it. I was stopped by traffic core today, no nct or tax on my car.Been ages since same. Have to bring both to gardai within 14 days. Rang for nct test and next one is feb and car tax back date is 1400 euros??? the car is not worth 100 euros Had to drive as no other choice. If I scrap the car today and bring this to the car and pay the fine should I be ok. Rang local garda station and they did not know. Really screwed as flat broke not working and really upset. Did a silly thing. Any advice greatly appreciated. Will get it scrapped as I know it wont pass the test as noise from back well.

You'll probably have to back tax it I'm afraid, due to the new system in place.

You might need legal advice on that one as the best way to approach this.

How out of date was the tax and NCT?

I'm guessing that the length of non compliance with tax and NCT might be a gauge on how leniently you will be treated.

As previous poster said, I'd be taking some advice from a local Garda or solicitor and see what they might know.

Also, as you didn't have NCT and tax, did you have insurance even? That may save you somewhat but a strike out on all three doesn't bode well I'm afraid.

Wondering why they did not take the car off you? If they did, I would have thought you would have got the chance to sign the car over to them to scrap. Unless that has changed with the new rules. Does seem strange they didnt sieze the car, especailly as the car was out of tax by a long way €1,400 is a lot of back tax. Unless you are driving a beast of a thing of course.

They should give you one within 3-4 weeks
Ensure that the average lead time for an appointment at an individual test centre is less than three weeks and no greater than four weeks. The customer will be provided with a test free of charge where an appointment cannot be offered within a four week period provided that:
    • The Customer has not declined a test appointment (either confirmed or provisional) more than twice, at a centre of their choosing, for the test due at this time

    • The Customer has not previously accepted a booking outside of the 4 week period.

I'm going to close this before it gets out of hand and the High horse brigade trot in.

Op I suggest you get some proper legal advice on the matter. Should you do so, PM me and I'll re open the thread.
