Garda questioning

    Sorry if this is a really stupid question but my mother and myself were talking about this tonight and we really want to know!

    You know in the paper when it says that someone is being held in a Garda station and questioned for something like 24 hours? Does that mean they are questioned for 3 hours, then let sleep for 8 hours and back again for another 2 hours or are they questioned for the whole 24 hours?

    AFAIK, they have a minimum amount of time that they must be allowed rest for, it's not the whole 24 hours anyway

    Sleep deprivation is not allowed Lol. From midnight to 8am the prisoner can rest, they can waive that if they want but can't be forced to.

    From 8am until midnight they can be interviewed but obviously not non stop. That would bring up all sorts of hell in court.
