    hi guys,

my sis and I are thinking of going to malta at easter so mid to late april 2014.
apparently the weather is nice that time of the year and they have the euro which helps!
just wondering has anyone been to malta around that time of year and did you go with a travel company or arrange it independently?
any info or help would be most welcome.:D

I haven't been there around Easter but a bit later than that, but I'd definitely book everything myself instead of going through a travel agency if I were you! Malta isn't very big and it's easy enough to get around, and a taxi from the airport to your hotel won't cost that much. You can save a lot of money by booking everything yourself.

Easter should be lovely in Malta. It is a beautiful island and I am sure you will enjoy it. It is certainly easy to book directly yourself, but I would suggest you check out a few travel company sites to check out their package holidays so you get an idea of the various resorts on the island. This may give you some idea of what hotel or complex would suit you.

    Enjoy.

I was there just last weekend (obviously wasn't Easter time) but can give a few practicalities if it helps.

Booked flights with Ryanair, direct flight home left at 0635 so we booked seperate flights via Birmingham leaving at 1135, got us back to Dublin at 1605 with 55 mins to connect in Birmingham - all in flights for 2 cost us €164.

Booked the hotel ourselves through booking.com, there's a huge choice online so take your pick. We stayed in Qawra, took about 1hr 10mins to get there on the public bus from the airport, it's about an hour from Valetta on the bus, about 25mins to the ferry for Gozo. Everywhere is extremely accessible by bus. No doubt it's worth looking at a package too but for us (and for the time of year) it worked out much better to do it ourselves.

Definitely take a trip over to Gozo and go to the arch at Dwejra, it's all rocks weathered by the sea and is like a playground for adults! It's pretty stunning. The old town in Victoria/Rabat is lovely too. Same thing with Mdina on main Malta and the old town in Valetta.

We found it very inexpensive to eat out and getting around on the bus is €2.60 for a day ticket - all the bus timetables can be found here http://www.arriva.com.mt/home?l=1

    Hope that helps
