He seems to have made quite a good impression on the Japanese. The ban on Irish beef to be lifted and Enda has invited the Crown Prince to Ireland for a visit.

    Credit where it's due!

I think Simon Coveney is the man people should be saying well done to here tbh. Probably the best minister in the Dail.

Ooooh big statement there ... He is a fine minister though your right - probably a future leader of Fine Gael too. Would put Michael Noonan above him at the minute though.

He actually reminded me off Father Ted Crilly watching on the news yesterday. The awkward posture and odd smiling head nod of ignorance.

    There's no credit due here.

Irish beef had the same risk status as French beef, yet the French had their ban lifted back in FEBRUARY.

If anything they delayed the deal until they were in Japan for the trade mission to show a good result and actually cost 10 million in lost sales

Direct dealings with Japanese companies/authorities via the trade mission with the Taoiseach/Minister will probably net a lot bigger revenue in the long run then if the deal was just announced as a side issue with the minister/Taoiseach in Dublin.

The Japanese relaxed the importation of beef at the end of 2012 beginning of 2013 from the USA, France and the Netherlands to make up for the lost beef from Brazil after the outbreak of Mad cow disease. Why didn't Ireland push to be included at that time.

Did that thing where you click into a thread having only sorta half read the title and ended up feeling disappointed.

    Now it's alright.

Quite a jump between this and your previous comment. So no evidence then...

I'd love for Enda to come and visit my missus.

She's a vegetarian and won't allow meat in the house :(

Irish beef isn't bad but the Japanese kobe variety is reputedly the best in the world.

I hear he cured a load of lepers over in Mayo and turned bread into Toblerones.

Tell him to bring us all a stick of rock.

Japanese government bringing in some mad 'official secrets' legislation, I'm sure Enda had a word.

Still, though, the beef thing is a long overdue coup. Fair play that he didn't f`ck up the work of many (some?) behind the scenes diplomats with an 'off the cuff' suggestion 'that just occurred to him'.

Jesus, I've just had a flashback to Mehole Martin 'doing' a Chinese accent.

He would go down well there, he always struck me as a bit of a japs-eye, the big mallet headed mayo mug. The day he left teaching was the day he reached too high imo. I've much the same regard for Gilmore.

Enda had nothing to do with this, it's been worked on for months, sometimes years beforehand, both the beef deal and the official invitation, that's how trade deals and official visits work. More to do with the Civil Service than the Government.

Strange how the Irish Beef ban wasn't lifted earlier, not sure if FG or the Govt can explain that one.

    Fukushima is perhaps one reason.
