FGA Settings

I had a customer call me this evening to say that damp patches are appearing on the outside of his chimney in the boiler house. (bottom half of chimney is in the boiler-house) He has a Bongioanni cast iron boiler with stainless steel flu coming from the back of the boiler and and going into (at about 45 degrees) the clay-flue lined chimney. The chimney isn't lined with a metal flue inside the clay flue. I explained that this is necessary and he is having it done next summer. The boiler was way over aired before I cleaned it and set it up. I know this because of the amount of adjustment to the air setting on the Riello burner.
I am calling back to him tomorrow and am going to increase the air and therefore the FG temp. I am hoping this will solve the problem.
Anyone have any ideas on this course of action please?

All those settings seem fairly good to me especially if your also getting O on the smoke pump, chimney temp is good as in high enough for it not to be causing your damp spot problems, chimney does need to be re lined as it's the problem.
Point out to the customers the difference in efficiencys of boiler flue temp. condemning 50 degrees V your 220+ wasted out the chimney, he might be better off fitting a new boiler and forget the old flue.
All your FGA readings looked ok except the CO which looked low ?

I would try and persuade him to have a SS flexi flue fitted.

Thanks Billy and Scudo. What do you think of my suggestions if he doesn't want to do flue during winter?

It will knock the eff down but showing him the 2 print out and explaining how its costing him money to warn the chimney may persuade him to bring it forward.

I will put in a bigger nozzle and set it up with a higher flue temp. I don't think he will mind some loss in efficiency, so long as he hasn't to do anything with it before the cold weather ends.

The lower the better I thought!! I've often had 1 or 2 ppm on an oil boiler

Get new boiler and save money. Increasing flue temp. won't fix chimney in my opinion.
    Min. is new liner.

He reckons he didn't have that problem before the service and does not want any work done during winter. I think I will get a half bucket of ashes and scatter it about the heat exchanger and combustion chamber and see if I can find his old nozzle :):):)

Well that is good but on occasion I've seen it low. Often under 10 ppm. I doubt I'd be educating yourself on oil boilers!

When you can buy 1000lt of "heating oil" for €600 delivered you need to question just what they are selling.

It is a long time ago since it was to be had for that. Probably mixed with used cooking oil :):):):):)

Of course the lower the better, its like an ocd, just won't press print until I can get it as low as possible, hopefully single figures!
