I don't do any gaming at all, but want a good spec multi media 17" laptop that is good for multi tasking, HD streaming, video file conversions, photo's manipulation. Will be stationary in one position, so no worries for battery life/weight etc. Don't want a desktop, like to be able to close the lid.

    Is this overkill ?

My trusty Dell 6400 from 2006 can't handle it anymore - want something with quality build that will serve me again for at least 5 yrs.

Also considering Lenovo Z710. I have a Thinkpad X220 and like it a lot, especially the keyboard.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

I also notice that there seems to be no laptops out there with dedicated media control buttons for volume/mute/play/ff etc like the Dell 6400. Anyone know of anything in a 17" format ?
