:D I'd like to think its because I'm prefer to spend my leisure time with friends or alone and not with people I'm contracted to spend time with.

Me too but always good to do the odd do with them. Bad state of affairs if you absolutely wouldn't spend two hours a year with them. Thankfully my own work environment is more bearable than yours.

I stopped going to them about 4 years ago.Too many false,2faced backstabbers and enough time is spent workin with them let alone socialise with them. And of course we have the "big shots" who talk shop and the know-it-alls who talk sheit.

I can relate. Last year I didn't go because it just felt false and fake, but I went the year before that and it was cr@p.

Why dont you get invited?!! You should arrange a drink with that chap that has a drink on his own in town.

I love a big xmas party - so much ALWAYS happens and as long as I'm not in the middle of it I dont care. Biggest one in awhile this year. Really cheap overnight stay in 4* hotel. Ill make the most of it because it will be one of the few times I'll'll be drinking over Xmas. :(

Rarely go because I generally reserve Christmas for meeting friends but no problems with my workmates as they're mostly OK.

My work isn't having a Christmas party this year. Money's tight and the boss lady needs to fund her sixty-cigarettes-a-day habit.

Meh, it's only a part-time job I work to pay the health insurance.

I'll have my own freelancer's Christmas party. It'll undoubtedly just end up with me drinking wine on my own and degenerating into a sobbing mass of tears whilst licking the furniture.

What kind of furniture, whats it made from? I usually lick the legs on the table and I keep telling myself I've pulled but its not the same.

    Wanna lick together?

I put Vicks on my furniture legs to stop my guests licking them.

I work with about 30 people but only 4 of us are going for a drink for Christmas. Sound lads and we get on well. The rest of the people are absolute cunts.

Our mad bastard party is lunch half paid for by the staff, tis wild so it is.

i go out of my way to avoid xmas parties

cause i don't want to fall out with people that i have to work with

from previous experience people get drunk and cheeky.. home truths are told.. and some take offence, making for an awkward return to work

Maybe there's a reason for that "attitude".

I don't go because I know I'd end up head butting a certain someone.

I'd go but our 'parties' are sit down meals and shirt/tie are mandatory.... If they held one in a pub with a pool table I'd be last man standing.

I've gone to a few in the past. I'd rather just go on a night out with people from work that I've become friends with. Yes, it does very occasionally happen. :) If I go to an official thing, I tend to be very conservative. Me drunk is not a pretty sight.

I was off this year for the Xmas party, having worked for the last couple, but I had already arranged to go away for the weekend months ago. Probably for the best really because my tolerance for drink has dropped away to around half a bottle weak beer and I'd more than likely end up make a tit of myself! Free beers is always good though.

I'll be going to mine. Great laugh. About 30 of us this year. Our office seems to get on pretty well. Free meal and a few drinks, followed by whoever is left upright going to some club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,163 ✭✭✭✭danniemcq

Never went this year but our boss had to put one of the guys into a taxi when they started a fight with a christmas tree at 6am in the morning and the hotel staff had to pin him to the ground.

Between the Xmas party and the sumer BBQ, they're some of the best nights of the year, free booze and grub whatever venue we go to for the night so cant really complain.

    this.
Once the free food n beer has gone, I usually arrange to meet up with my mates, or the 'sound' folk in the company just head elsewhere, leaving the rest who want to talk shop ****e to each other...

There is a gang of us that are not going to the official Christmas party, but having our own night out. Better craic that way, I can live without one turkey meal this year.
