How to Remove Mantle

Does anyone have an idea how to remove the mantle from the fireplace. There is no gap to get a blade between the two.

Do you mean the mantle on top or the complete fire surround??? If it's just the top then I don't think it can be removed as it's joined to the rest of it. I could be wrong.

There's clips to the side of it, but they are plastered over, should be 4 of them, about 6 inch from top and 8 inch from the bottom.
