    Hi all,
I am planning on moving to Dublin next year (from UK) and have been working for several years in the outdoor industry. I have several ngb qualifications from UK national governing bodies, BCU, mlt, mbla gnas etc. I'm hoping to be working in the industry and was wondering what the compatibility is with the Irish set up?
    I'd appreciate any knowledge?
    Cheers,
    Nathan

Mountaineering Ireland is the national governing body

There isn't much of an "industry" however.

I worked in the outdoor pursuits 'industry' about twenty years ago, so knowledge of it a bit sketchy now. My impression is that it's broken down into three areas now:
    (1) there a quite a number of self employed instructors offering skills courses, work mainly on their own or in collaboration with others in same game. Some do guiding overseas as well

    (2) corporate work - similar to above but geared towards companies and staff bonding etc. - some residential businesses

    (3) VEC - outdoor education centres doing typically schools work. Usually residential, often youngish staff, pay not great unless managing.

Would be cross over between all. UK qualifications would be broadly compatible but you'd need to check with individual sports bodies here.

Like BarryD says the UK and Irish qualifications generally cross over, although you should contact http://mountaineering.ie/ and http://canoe.ie/ to find out the small details.

Here is a list of all the public funded Outdoor Education Centres: http://www.oei.ie/.

You then have a range of private adventure providers, whom you will find online.

I agree, contact Mountaineering Ireland. Coincidentally Jane Carney who is the new Training Officer for Mountaineering Ireland, is English (as was her predecessor) and did her initial training there, so she will certainly know what's what as far as that's concerned.
