Working at DUB

    Hello all,

Got a new job at DUB. Anybody know how long the clearance process takes to get issued with an ID? I've yet to hear anything further about collecting my badge or a start date. Is the process known to take long?

Additionally, I'm living in the Glasnevin area and considering public transport options to / from work or driving. Any Dublin Airport staff here have any idea of other options to the main Dublin Bus 16/41 routes?

RE Staff car parking at DUB, how does that operate? Is it near the terminal building? Is it free or how does it operate?

    Many thanks

    Hello all,

Recently accepted a ground handling position based at Dublin Airport. I was offered the job at the start of October and accepted orally and forwarded on my background check details / DAA ID forms etc. to the company who submitted my application to the DAA for airside access.

Anybody know how long the clearance process takes to get issued with an ID? I've yet to hear anything further about collecting my badge or a start date. Is the process known to take this long?

Additionally, I'm living in the Glasnevin area and considering public transport options to / from work or putting a car on the road. Unfortunately I'm off the main Swords Road bus corridor which has plenty of Dublin Bus links. Any Dublin Airport staff here have any idea of other options?

RE Staff car parking at DUB, how does that operate? Is it near the terminal building? Is it free or how does it operate?

Lastly, has anybody an idea as to how staff rosters operate at the airport around Christmas time and closing hours of the airport over the Christmas period as I am curious to know how I might be working if I get started this side of Christmas..

    Many thanks

TL:DR - New employee to DUB looking some info about working there!

    Hi.

yes the clearance process can take a while. For your first ID the DAA have to send off info to the Gardai for a 10 year backround check. Staff parking depends on the company you work for. My parking is 3 minutes from the terminal

The only bus routes to the airport are the 16 and 41 - you will need to walk or get another bus to the Drumcondra Road/Swords Road to get there.

If you feel it's taking too long OP I would call your contact in the company or the Access and Identification Centre directly just to check up.

A few years back I lost a contract for an airside summer position as the Access and Identification centre had mad a mix up and informed the company I was denied airside access due to convictions. Never even been inside a Garda station other than getting a passport form stamped!

That was probably a one off but I was only told when I called on a Monday as was due to start the next week and hadn't heard anything back.

I would feel that asking these questions of your employer (re ID wait and parking) would yield more accurate answers then from boards.ie.

It depends on where you have lived in the past. If you have lived in Ireland all your life then you can get one in a few weeks, the fastest I have seen is 5 working days but that was very much a one off. Generally 3 weeks is the norm. Now, if you have address's outside of Ireland it can take a good while longer. One of my team have moved all around the world and it took almost 5 months to get him cleared as we had to contact each local police force and get him a clearance cert. It was very close to the point where we were going to have a chat with him! It's really out of your control so patience is needed. There are a number of staff car parks but if you are new I can almost guarantee that you will be down in the purple car park by the Radassion hotel. It's less than a 10 min walk to T1 and there is a shuttle bus.
