    Hi,

    I'v a Massey 188 that's running and driving perfect and is as powerfull as hell, but is blown oil up the exhaust, and white smoke when left running for a while.

    What's causing this, and is it a big job to fix?

    Jo

    It's definitly definitly oil. Comin out around the manifold , and blown up exhaust. Spattering back onto the window.

    Been at it with the past 15 years . . . Drinks plenty of oil. Doesn't effect the power of her tho . . . She'd pull anything.

    i think there is an oil line in the head of the engine and oil can leak from tht into the exhaust

    Classic Tractor Dec '13 issue says :

    "White smoke is either unburnt fuel or engine coolant. To determine which, simply sniff the smoke. Unburnt fuel has an acrid diesel smell whereas coolant exhaust emission is virtually odourless. If the acrid smell is present check for a leaking thermostart aid or sticking injector needle(s).

    The latter fault is usually accompanied by slight misfiring. If no acidity is present, the white smoke is coolant based. Check for excess pressure in the radiator expansion tank. If excess pressure is present check out the cylinder head gasket for a cracked fire ring. "

    As for oil blowing up out of the exhaust I think that means that there's oil blowing up past the piston, which might mean a problem with the piston rings??

    if its from the piston rings it would blow out the breather pipe and not make it to the manifold

    have you tried doing an oil pressure test or it could be valve stem seals???

    15 years is madness thou:eek::eek::eek:

    Was told not to let a redone Ford engine idle for any length as it would cause oil to be blown up the exhaust.

    This is correct.

    What is it like with a heavy load?

    Is it just a tipping around tractor or does it do heavy work?

    I think the head would have to be replaced

    Just a tipping around tractor. Heaviest job would be drawing in silage bales.
