Help - reversing a bus around a corner!

    Hi,
    I have my D1 test on Monday, just some questions about reversing around the corner. I know you are not allowed hit the kerb but are you able to cross to the far side of the raod while reversing and then come in to the kerb. Also any tips on reversing gratefully accepted....finding it hard to master.

    Like anything else it gets easier with practice, but there are times when you need to take the full width of the road for such a manouvre and the examiner will be well aware of that. Slow is the key, get the rear wheel at the apex of the corner keeping it a reasonable distance from the kerb, which could be anything from a foot to four or five feet. The slower you go the more time you'll have to get the steering turned. Obviously observation is critical here as the front of the bus is going to swing out away from the kerb as the rear turns in. As the bus starts to become parallel with the kerb on the Rd you're backing into you're going to need to straighten up the steering. If you have the rear wheel too close to the kerb when you straighten up you're going to have no room for minor corrections so I'd try keeping it at around three feet or so from the kerb for the whole manouvre, but don't get too hung up if it's closer or farther than that. Get a good look at the road you're backing into to see if there's any curve to it as that can make it trickier.

    How narrow is the road that you would need to cross it while reversing a D1? Slow speed and plenty of observations
    Keep the kerb in your view on left, don't let it disappear or you'll be wide.
    If you're getting too close to kerb, shunt forward and realign it. Lastly as you turn into road get parallel with kerb and then if need be reduce the gap to kerb gently.
