Referee today is Major Dick Winters / Nicholas Brody.

Ulster bizzarely on the wrong side of the ref at the scrum despite clearly being better scrummagers, they should be more willing to get he ball out though, the backline is their strength

3-0 Zebre, penalty from a scrum which is a bit concerning.

Don't know how the Ulster scrum half was meant to get the ball out there.

    3-3, Jackson.

That was a nice bit of play from Zebre there, good few phases.

Lovely move out wide there from Zebre. Too bad the pack couldn't keep up and retain possession.

Probably cheaper than setting up a radio link between the ref and the TMO :P

I'm enjoying this game! Some creative rugby by both. Happy to see the sparks from Zebre, I expect they could be in a very good place by next year.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,424 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

If Zebre could defend better they'd be a decent enough team.

They look really good ball in hand.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,424 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

    Herring off injured ffs.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,424 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

If that was a try for Zebre it was a very nice one.

    Yup, try Zebre.

Yeah lovely work. Ulster being a little naive in defence. Need to stop getting sucked in.

Zebre are really great to watch. Comms compared them to Dragons who try to be difficult to beat while Zebre emphasise attack, really puts the Dragons to shame when you see Zebre playing like this, it's not like they're going to be challenging for the H cup anyway, the league is a much better place with Zebre playing like this

  • Administrators Posts: 54,424 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Phew. Ulster got very lucky there.

This TMO crap is amateur hour. Sort it out ffs.

What an absolute clusterfcuk, ref on the phone, cameraman doesn't have a clue what offence they're talking about, TMO makes a decision without actually seeing what happened, and the ref makes his own decision anyway?!? What a farce

Think lenihan was a bit unfair on the AR tho, they can't see everything, there's 30 men on the pitch.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,424 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

    That was crap tbh.

    Full time Zebre 11 - 19 Ulster.

The AR called to refs attention to the incident, last season the AR would have to make a call on it.

Yeah and now they don't - Lenihan was giving out saying he should've made a decision on it - but how when he didn't see it? Exactly what the rules were brought in for, if he doesn't like it fine but no point in blaming the AR for missing an incident.

The AR can still make the decision, he waited for the ref to suggest the TMO, when the ref was having difficulty getting confirmation from the TMO he said to the AR what was his recommendation, then when the TMO said saw nothing, he had to suggest to the AR that a penalty was enough punishment evdn though he never saw the incudent. The AR seemed to want to opt out once he flagged the incident.

I heard the AR suggesting the TMO?

Possibly, I thought it was the ref that suggested it, maybe he repeated it to confirm that's what the AR wanted due to the language/accent barrier. Either way it seemed harsh to award a pen when none of the officials could confirm what they thought happened.

I only saw bits of the game but I did see two incidents that the same AR called initially. The first was illegal use of the boot (that I'm not sure even happened) by Bortolami(?) and the second was the Tuohy dangerous tackle. He seemed to suggest he saw both, called the player who was involved but was hesitant to make any real call on it, suggesting on both occasions the TMO be called in. Yet on both occasions the TMO saw nothing and the AR ultimately ruled. It was very strange.

Didnt see it but it seems a decent enough win given the injuries even if the performance was so so. Did see the try though and it was delightful!

Bit worried about the hooker situation!

The Jackson pass for the try was absolutely sublime. He's such a quality player.
