Anyone notice that both text and BBC red button are no more on Sky. I rang Sky about this and they confirmed this to me.

Hoopefully this signals the end of the red button nonsense

Sky text is gone on Sky News, Sky Sports News etc since the end of October. BBC red button is still ok for me. Have a UK FTV card.

No problems getting it. The text button on the Sky remote as well as the red button should take you into the BBC red button menu.

Something that is shunted to the red button cannot be recorded. All these extra streams should have a channel number on the EPG.

Yup, fully agree. If they wanted, they could keep the RB, but have it redirect to an existing EPG number/channel.

Just to update. I switched off sky box at mains and then switched it on and both BBC text/red button returned. BTW you can record red button on Sky but it is awkward i.e. tune box into red button channel and then link Sky box to external recorder e.g. DVD /Video and record onto it.

I meant on the PVR. That method isn't much good if you wish to watch something else at the same time.

No need to go to that trouble, this also works:

I've discovered that you can record the BBC Red Button channel on a Sky+ HD box.

Firstly, add the BBC Red Button channel to 'Other Channels'.
    It's on:
    10.773
    H
    22.0
    5/6
    labelled 6390

    Now, follow these steps:

    Press Services
    Select Other Channels
    Select 6390
    Press Services
    Press Add Channels
    Arrow down
    Press Yellow Button
wait a few seconds then press the SKY button (do not press Back Up)

Now you can record channel 6390

That is brilliant! I had to do it very slightly differently. All the channel details were the same as before except it's called "BBC RB1" instead of "6390".

    So to reiterate:

    1. Go to the "add channels" page in the services menu, and enter the following configuration:
    • Frequency: 10.773
    • Polarisation: H
    • Symbol rate (Mbaud): 22.0
    • FEC: 5/6
    • Standard: DVB-S
    • Modulation scheme: QPSK

    2. Hit the yellow button to search for channels. This can fail sometimes so just try again. It should present a list of BBC channels, some checked and some unchecked.

    3. Go down to "BBC RB1" and hit the yellow button to select it, then press select to save the changes.

    4. Now go to the "Other Channels" page in the service menu. You should see "BBC RB1" (it might not be on the first page, so scroll down), then hit select to view.
