there is this guy who is threatening me with murder if i do anything he does not like. he threatened me with murder if i report him to gardi that he threatened to. etc.
its obviously the oldest trick in the book. threaten to kill and they will take the report from gardi.

it is silly, but it did happen. the guy is obviously retarted and needs to be avoided. but what do you do? like you just do not do nothing because it will happen again.

he does it to everyone. he had loads of complaints towards him from all people that know him. and he threatens to kill everyone if they talk about him.

i am not going to go into more details because it is kind of pointless. what i want to know what to do when a criminal threatens to kill you. essentially they intimidate you so that you canot protect yourself. sounds like it's just about him. nothing to do with anyone.

Seriously, he doesn't sound like a legitimate murder threat, but at the very least is causing harassment. I'd bet money he's ''known to the gardai'' and if you did wind up somewhere beaten and bruised, he'd be the first one they'd call to.

And though they may be hopeless at the smaller stuff, there are some things the Gardai do very well. This is one of them. Threatening to murder you, even half-heartedly, is not to be allowed.

Why do you think this is not a real opinion? It's what any one with any sense would do.

So he does it to everyone....
    They've all complained about him....
And he threatens to kill everyone who talks about him....

So.... Has he murdered anybody yet?

If not he is causing a nuisance and engaging in threatening behaviour, as Lux23 advised you... go to the Gardaí.

You should go to the police.

    But if you dont.

Tell him you've told 10 people about his threat. (definitely tell at least one person you know well)
And that if anything happens to you he will most definitely be caught.

If you're intimidated stay in public places during the day, be careful entering/exiting your house, have an evacuation plan and lock your bedroom door at night (alarm on). (lock internal doors in view of the entrance too when going out) Keep all entrances locked (double if possible) during the day, dont open the front door to any strangers, vary your routine - leave and return home at unpredictable times, bring a friend if possible. Have a clear view of all entrances and your street. Use taxis, to your door, on occasion if you can (if you dont drive). Keep a mobile on you at all times, put some charged back up ones around the house/in the car/on you. Use timer switches on lights. Keep curtains closed when not there.
Maybe even some size 12 boots in view of the letter box (move them daily). Set very subtle traps to show any interference with entrances, internal doors and climbable walls.

I find opening a thread usually does the trick.

    thanks to everyone for replies.

i do not know about gardai. i'm pretty sure he will just say he didn't do it. and will intimidate me to take it back from gardi. the usual crap

Ask him to describe in detail how he'll do it. He'll most likely shrug it off any make it obvious he's talking bollocks but if he has any kind of coherent plan in mind get thee to a coppery.

That doesnt matter. Once a complaint is made, its a back up. Because if anything did happen you, who do you think the prime suspect would be? Think of it as insurance.

Bullies and the like always count on victims staying silent. Thats how they get their power over you. If you want to take the wind from his sails, and genuinely believe he might be capable of harming you, you need to stand up for yourself here, and start talking.
