Maybe, just maybe, they imported it and paid the duty. More than likely not though.

I don't think even that is legal when it comes to reselling alcohol and tobacco.

Why don't you start drinking that whiskey now and you can forget about this nonsense of whether duty was paid or not.

Then you can get down to the business of insulting people you know and starting fights with people you don't know and then crying before puking and falling asleep in a ditch like a proper human being does when there's whiskey about. :)

That's what's wrong with this country. People accepting this as the norm. Not going starting fights with anyone. What are you drinking?

Happens all the time and its no big deal.

I used to work in the drinks trade and it works like this,......

lets say company A has exclusive Irish distribution rights to... say Smirnoff.

Smirnoff's manufacturer in Ireland will only sell to them.

they charge (make up a number).... 100 euro a case

Company B find a distributor in Mexico who will sell them Smirnoff, duty paid and shipped to Dublin at 95 Euro a case. they can sell it at 99 euro (and not make much from it), but their customers now know that they can get all their spirits from company B rather than make two orders

it's perfectly legal as far as the Excise folks are concerned, and while it may make Company A really grumpy, there's nothing they can do about it.

we would have Mexican Smirnoff on the optics all the time. its still SMIRNOFF, just manufactured and packaged in a different factory.

Happened a lot with trendy imported beers back in the day.... Corona was the most widely independently imported at that time.
