    Hi guys and gals,

Im moving into a house at start of new year, the house is an old one and needs alot of work,ie,new kitchen, some plastering etc.

That stuff doesnt bother me too much,im kinda alright there as i can do some that and friend can plaster.

I got a plumber out too look at it,he took a look and said there is more problems than anything.
He however did say its handy that alot of the plumbing in house is external and not hidden under floor like most new builds etc.

He said he wont give me a quote until new year and in the interest of me saving money i should source alot of the piping etc myself for heating and that.

So,in the hope that you can all help me out here and try explain what i need,i will explain what the house is like and that, and where online is best place too order stuff,he told me look on plumbingproducts.ie, also he said i should use PEX for alot of it including heating? i dont know what that is.also im on budget as im out of work too.

KITCHEN - extension on back of house, there will be sink, washing machine, dishwasher.

DOWNSTAIRS BATHROOM - bath tub, sink, toliet, shower (electric)

UPSTAIRS BATHROOM - toliet and sink

there is also a copper hot water cylinder but very old and he said i should swap this out anyway too a bigger version and he said a new cylinder would be about 130-150 as there will be a 12 KW Boiler Stove installed too heat water and 6 rads as there is no heating as the oil burner was robbed from outside.

I will post pictures of the plumbing when i get down too the house again if helpful but any advice would be brilliant on this matter

    thanks

First off, you cannot run Pex surface.
Secondly, you won't get a twin coil cylinder for €130.
Finally, clients supplying & sourcing materials usually ends in tears. Will you have everything there & correct when needed? Will you be paying for workmen standing around doing nothing while you are gone to get the right materials?
You have one opportunity to get your heating correct. Make a balls of it & you will have hardship for years to come.

OP you can run pex surface. If you can find a plumber that will run pex on the surface..... Don't hire him

PEX is a plastic pipe instead of hard copper. It is only used under floors, joints and up through partitions where you can't see it.(we all use it ) It's a good pipe but never used on the surface where you can see it, as it twists and bends with the heat and looks as ugly as fcuk. Total sign of bad workmanship.

Most trades men supply the pipes and fittings on a job and client get the ware, as in bathroom and sinks + taps of their personal choice.
