Hi there.I have Arca LPG gas boiler wich wont fire up.This morning water pressure dropped down to 0 Bar and the only way to put water to the system is to manually open valve te get pressure to 0.5 Bar.But if I do this way boiler of course will fire up but pressure goes to over 3.5 bar and water is leaking from one pipe :( I have never had that problem before.
Can someone give some idea what to check? I dont know much about plumbing but woul like to know what to say to plumber :D

Expansion vessel will need to be either recharged or replaced. And most likely the prv also

To be honest I dont see any expansion vessel anywhere...Unless it is in the attic...What is the PRV?

The expansion vessel is hidden behind the boiler usually. PRV is a pressure release valve. Get an Rgi to check it out for you

Is it an arca pocket ? If so it's in the back as Declan suggested

Hi I'm just wondering if you got your boiler fixed? I've the same boiler and I've been having trouble with it the past two weeks...same thing as yourself, pressure dropping and having to fill the system back up to get the boiler to fire up. That was until Tuesday when it stopped responding completely.

Anyhow I had a plumber out yesterday to have a look and he said the expansion vessel needs to be replaced but because it's an old boiler the part is impossible to get!!!

    Did you get yours fixed?

You don't need the actual, specific, Arco-specified and certified expansion vessel. Just about any old expansion vessel will do and it can be fitted almost anywhere in your heating system. So a replacement vessel could go in the hotpress or, in some cases, in the loft.

    Simples.

yes, and it also needs to be sized to fit the system. Best practice to locate as close to the boiler as possible

Thanks guys, The plumber suggested to have the boiler replaced but as they're quite expensive it's not really an option at the moment. I'm not sure why he hasn't the same advice as you both. Anyhow I've found the part I need online so I'm just wondering if you would have any idea what the cost of fitting would be roughly?

    Thanks.

I think ecopipe in Stillorgan are the agents for arca boilers, might be handier/cheaper than online

To advise a new boiler for the want of a new expansion vessel is criminal:mad:.

Defective expansion vessels are usually a symptom of another problem which would be system water contamination ie... Sludge.

If it were me I would find a decent RGI to fit externally a secondary expansion vessel(if practical) and magnetic filter also I'd be asking for his/her opinion on the quility of your system water to help decide whether or not any flushing is required.

When you said you found the part was that an original exp. vessel for the arca boiler or are you talking about a standard external vessel. Was the plumber basing his recommendation to replace the boiler on any other factors other than the exp. vessel? If so what were they?
