Ho all, have decided its time to bare metal my mk1 Golf, and was looking for recommendations of where to get it blasted , ideally in the midlands?
    Thanks.

I thought you were looking for somebody to slag Joe Duffy, Media blasting.

Probably not a lot of help, but I vaguely remember passing by an outfit that refurbs alloys, between Birr and Banagher. They would "sand" blast wheels, so............ Maybe a google will throw up something?

feck, don't sand blast a car body what ever you do.

OK, Ask your local panel beater, they'll know who will do media blasting in their area.

I agree and that's why I put the word "sand" in inverted commas. It's a generic term and I'd be very surprised if anybody actually uses sand to clean metal etc. I've heard of soda, crushed walnut shells and whatever else being used, but a valid point nonetheless. Apologies for any misunderstanding.

Pictures like that are not going to tell you if the panels are warped or not and that's where most of the skill lies with media blasting.

Just an idea but a friend was looking for such a place years ago to blast something small.
He ended up trying a place that did headstones and they did it for him

Brian Kinsella . Outside Castledermot/Athy did my Mk1 Golf . Delighted with the results , took him about 2 weeks . Lovely fella , a genuine diehard enthusiast , only does auto restoration work , no plant or machinery or headstone style work , uses crushed glass. Does a lot of aircooled VW vans . He prices every car fairly , I left him a bare shell , with 95% of the underseal stripped off , and all the panels loose .
It came back to me with no damage from blasting and in a coat of primer.
