    Hi all,

New to shooting & new to Boards & computers.

I've recently received my licence on a .22lr and need a scope.

    No idea what to get.

I want to use solely for hunting.

    Advice & recommendations welcome.

Straight off the bat I'll say Bushnell Banner, Dusk til Dawn model. Relatively cheap but quite effective. Come up for sale on the for sale section here from time to time. Not sure where to get in a bricks and mortar store though.

Some of the Hawke scopes are also great budget entry scopes which could be used for a long time on different types of rifles.

there is alot of good scopes out there but id recommend a 3-12x50 or there abouts in any decent market scope which might set ya back €200-€400 depending on what make and model u buy.A half decent scope is better then a cheap and cheerful one you won't be sorry in the longrun.

I would also recommend a Bushnell Banner. They are a great scope for the money.

I have a Hawke 3-9x50 IR mil dot on my .22. Very rarely find myself needing the 9x power as Im rarely shooting anything past 80 yards. Love the scope it cost me €130 5 or 6 years ago

Thanks I reckon this is what I need alright. Now to find one. I'll give them a ring if I can't find one closer to home.

If you have the money for an s&b great. But more or less any of the new hawkes is more than you need.

S&B looks simple & traditional not into gadgets & gizmos like I've seen on some scopes.......................bit of an old fuddy duddy me. Only used iron sights up to this so going to be a learning curve with a scope.

The S and B scopes are great but the crosshairs can be a bit thick , more for a deer stalking set up where it wouldn't be an issue , just have that in mind when looking at scopes , bushnell banner dawn and dusk are great scopes and handier having a bit of magnification for bunnies and small targets

Have a look at nikon scopes, seen a few recently and they surprised me with their brightness and sharpness of image, they are not expensive either. No point in over scoping a .22 bunny basher with expensive optics when something cheaper will do the job just as well.

Not seen any here on my travels to various gun shops. Any idea where I could see/get one?
