My personal circumstances don't allow for any more taxes at the moment Phil.

    Sorry old hand.

"Bin collection charges will also rise"

What exactly was property tax for again?:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Wondering why the leaves haven't been swept up in my area & are now blocking drains.

Rang the council who told me they're not doing that this year because of cutbacks.

So that whole Local Property Tax thing again... Yeah...

No doubt we will have the usual suspects on here to tell us how we need to broaden the tax base, pay our way, and harp on about whatever Crap they've been brainwashed into believing by their FG overlords.

Send the apt message to the Govt and any representatives that call to your house in the run up to the local elections.

Wonder has he paid his own local service charge on his Portuguese penthouse yet?

Yeah our council aren't sweeping leaves this year either. They are however re paving roads that don't need and causing traffic chaos. The stretch they are working on is about 300 M long and they've been at it nearly a month. Phil should concentrate on councils wasting their budgets at the end of the year rather than taxing us to **** again for services we already pay for.

Now we have even less to spend. Weren't we meant to spend our money?? Wasn't that what drove the economy?

But these proposed taxes have nothing to do with any of that stuff.

Anyhow, I think it's a bit short sighted of these green's. They only ever seem to have 1 answer to every environmental problem out there, "Tax it."

Bloody hell, how about they get taxed for each bloody time they make such a suggestion.

Hasn't stopped them in the past.

How many bizarre justification attempts have we heard ref alcohol min pricing and broadcast charges etc.

Phil should keep it up though. He'll be the maker of his own demise.

All this will do is see more illegal dumping on country roads, and burning of rubbish at home.

In relation to the tyres, people will just go up north.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 645 ✭✭✭loveBBhate

Well I'll tell ya one thing, Philip can call to my house and try and tax me. But the only thing that will involve tyres, cars or bins is me burning his bet body on a few tyres, throwing the remains in to a bin and going for a spin in the boot of my car to be disposed of in the canal.

    He won't be taxing me!

    All being hypothetical of course.

They are to pay for politician expenses.

Imagine the environment they would have to work in if they didn't get paid for driving to work.

They would be hot and bothered and climate change would be an even worse problem.

If there is a problem with tyres being dumped, it's not the ordinary joe public who is doing it, it's the garages

A bit of enforecement on these garages would sort out the dumping problem.
If a garage buys 10,000 tyres a year but can only prove that it safely disposed of 2000 tyres a year then it's obviously doing something dodgy.

The same with cars. Every car in Ireland has a registered owner.

The vehicle registration office collects a lot of money every year in registration fees. they should be maintaining a list of cars that are registered in Ireland. If the cars are still registered in ireland but haven't been taxed in a long period of time then they are either being driven illegally, or they are off the road, or they have been disposed of illegally.

A simple letter asking the registered owner to confirm the status of the vehicle should track down the garages and individuals who are illegally disposing of vehicles.

Agreed, it should be old tyre for new and in the case where old tyre is not available (e.g. second set of wheels) then a deposit refund system takes place.

But isn't there already a system in place where we are charged for recycling the old tyres. We already pay for this!!

No more tyre sandals for me then.

Currently you pay when you, or usually the tyre dealer, disposes of the tyre. If I understand it correctly, the idea is that in future you'll pay a levy up front, much like the WEEE charge, so that you won't have to pay later. This way, there's no incentive for shady types to dispose of old tyres illegally as the costs for proper disposal will already have been paid. Sounds like a good plan to me in fact, and one they already have in some other countries.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,688 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Yes but as is the way with these things, the current disposal charge will be rolled into tyre price and environmental charge with be loaded on top.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,042 ✭✭✭zl1whqvjs75cdy

Its grand we'll all just stop buying new tyres and road deaths will sky rocket. Stick that up your environmental pipe Phil. (may be exaggerating for effect.)

    help protect the environment.
How's about banning election posters for a start, hypocritical cunts.

There is still a green party one in my area from years ago, I emailed the politician it belonged to and she threatened to call the gardai! saying she is no longer a member, so basically doesn't give a flying fuck

I informed another green party member that his election posters were illegal under the rules set out by the county council. He continued doing it after, even saw him in an area campaigning surrounded by newly placed illegal ones His response was to sign me up to his newsletter using a contrived feminine verison of my name, presumably a misogynist who thinks that I would be offended at being called a womans name.

In fairness you can't expect the council to do everything, what about you and your neighbours doing it. Same nonsense during the hard frost a few winters back people expected the council to clear an ice free path to their door way:rolleyes:

Ah ha, they are also planning to ban the sale of second hand tyres too, for our "safety".

To follow that to its logical conclusion, we will also need ban second hand cars on safety grounds, because second hand cars come with 4 second hand tyres. :)

Bit of a theme developing here under FG & Labour. Numerous things have been made illegal recently on "safety" grounds when on closer inspection they could just as easily be about making sure that Revenue and "the lads" are getting their slice of the pie.

The council where my elderly mother lives sweep , collect leaves and clear drains every year.

This year a group of residents from three roads all got together , swept up the leaves and put them black bags to do their civic duty , so to speak.

The council operatives refused to collect them because of the black bags so now the three roads have about 80 or so bags full of rotting leaves left by the side of the roads.
Three elderly men offered to empty the leaves back out of the bags , no deal said the council ops and off they went.

Now that's nonsense... you may use your rolleyes thingy.

Moral of the story don't put leaves in plastic bags or expect council to dispose them;) make a compost heap for each house ;)

Ill do believe the moral of the story is "expect nothing and everything of the council".

An offer to empty the bags , assistance gathering the leaves... not good enough for the council.

Had enough of all these taxes and politicians.
2 or 3 years and we are off.

They're looking to ban part-worn tyres as well. So much for reducing waste by re-using things! I'd prefer a quality part-worn tyre than some of the cheapest ****e that you can buy, I had more grip in the wet on bald Continentals than decent condition cheap ****e. Never again.

They've done it for the previous nine years I've lived here, at least three times from Start of October to Early December. It's no biggie, it's just one of these streetsweeping vehicles. So I think the precedent was set in expecting it.

They also used to sweep the roads the afternoon of the bin collections, that hasn't happened in a year either.

Myself & the neighbours do sweep them where possible (same with Ice & frost - try to be civic about it & much in). There's a lot of leaves where I live though. Very mature trees & a lot of them.

It's amazing how the solution to every problem means paying more taxes. How fortunate are those in power, that it works out that way.
