i would say he is chancing his arm, heifer was sold as is, there are so many variables as to why she didnt go in calf.....

Hi You sold her for breeding so therefore she has to be suitable for breeding.
She needs to be scanned (a vets report is the only one thet will stand up in court) if she is suitable for breeding then you are ok otherwise you either need to take her back and compensate the buyer for feeeding normally around 2.50 per day.

She was sold for breeding but not guaranteed in calf, you do not need to entertain this chancer at all. You don't know if she was served or even slipped calf. Tell him to p@@s off as politely as you can

did you state that she was suitable for breeding or did you sell as seen

if you stated suitable for breeding ask him to produce a valid vets report stating the heifer is not suitable for breeding and then you might entertain him

€912.50 to feed a heifer for one year? Really?

I think the thetangler bought her!

its ridiculious he even suggested it, he hasnt a leg to stand on. could be many problems in his herd you dont know about, abortion, IBR and all associated infertility issues, hurts, fluke. that would drive me mad

Is he a neighbor or do you know him in any way aside from that day in the mart?

Just out of interest - had a similar problem with some heifers, one of whom seemed to have no hope of getting in calf . Bloodtest revealed low copper level - apparently as a result of the wet year last year? Anyway, a copper bolus and
sea weed feed and all in calf within weeks

Anytime you buy a maiden heifer in the mart then you buy with an understanding that she may/may not go in calf. If she doesn't, then you try her again or count your losses and fatten her up. Same goes with buying an in calf cow. You are buying with the understanding that things may not go according to plan and you may lose the calf. It's a gamble

I wouldn't entertain that lad at all

Tell him to fcuk off politely....... don't even entertain him tell him to deal with the mart where she was sold and for them to liase with you .......we have all bought stock ...some were lucky some not so lucky....but when the hammer drops she isn't ur anymore ...read the conditions of sale at any mart..animals sold in good fate etc.

Last year I bought a bullock that was suitable for fattening and then he hasn't throve as much as I would have liked (irrespective of how I dosed him,how much concentrates he got, whether he got new grass or a field of rushes)I wonder will the previous owner give me a 780kg bullock in his place.
Not ****ing likely

I have a cow that has only ever gone in calf to natural service with a pb SI weanling and failed to keep to AI on several occasions. I was going to sell her as a cull but now I wonder would I be better off demanding the previous owner give me a cow that's easier got in calf.

In all seriousness I only ever heard of the opposite being a problem. A maiden heifer proving in calf. Maiden heifers come with no guarantee regarding breeding except as the term suggests they haven't been bred unless it's one that she's unsuitable for breeding. If the guy wants a guarantee of a heifer going in calf he should pay more and buy a springer.
