Send them details of sale, and contact motor tax office to make sure ownership was updated.

Or did you hand the logbook over to the seller, thus committing car sales mistake number 1.

Ring the company you received the parking fine from and tell them its not your problem and they should track down the owner of the car.

    Uh oh.

Selling a car 101: Always insist on keeping the logbook after they've signed it and send it away yourself, regardless of what reason they give you. Not doing this means that the ownership has not changed as far as Revenue are concerned and so you are still liable for Motor Tax and any incurred parking fines etc. Too late now

Well now you have to go off and contact shannon yourself.

Id imagine the whole thing is still in your name.

Never ever do that when selling a car.

1st step, contact shannon vehicle registration office.

Do you have a receipt from the sale? Or any proof at all car is sold?

I've often wondered, in instances such as this, what happens if you report the car stolen? The buyer has been cheeky and not sent the log book off (Assuming its not genuine oversight) so why not just report the car stolen? Seems like a fair deal to me, even for the eventual hiding the new owner will get if they get caught driving what is effectively a stolen car. The car is legally still the OPs unless a receipt / proof exists.

    Hypothetical question but just wondering.

Well, you'd be done for fraud/wasting garda time or something like that I suppose.
    The car isn't stolen.

OP, ring Shannon and they will help you.

    Not necessarily true,

I know of a very recent story where a guy bought an expensive 4x4 in a private sale. Turns out the seller had paid original owner a couple of days previous with a bank draft and again taken the log book (people are truly idiots handing this over) the bankd raft bounced.

The last guy bought with cash and the middle man legged it. In the end the original owner got the car back and the last guy was left well over 10K our of pocket.

Moral of the story is DONT EVER hand over log book you are not only harming yourself (see OP's case) but you are harming others too. See my case.
