a friend of mine has started going to a 'church' in Athone/Rosscommon area called His Place Christian Centre. Her parents have asked me if I know anything about this and what kind of church it is. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience of this group and if there is any reason for her parents to be worried. I have checked their website and it seems ok.

the 'church', as you put it, looks like a regular free church.

they buy into Alpha, so probably pretty mainstream in a non denominational sort of way.

while not being actively protestant, the fact that they aren't RC automatically makes them such.

If MY kids were going there I'd probably be very happy.

It has a bit of a clunky name, and that website is a bit on the garish side, but they look like a pretty standard non-denominational church. I doubt if there is any reason to worry.

As long as they don't ask to get the cheque book out and send you on foreign missions away from family then I suppose its fine.

Pardon the term.. but they are one of the thousands of Popup Christian Denominations.

I dont know why, but I'm always a little wary of Husband/Wife lead churches, particularly if there is any significant wealth on display

For example, an independent church in Bray Co. Wicklow, run by a husband and wife recently featured a picture of the pastor sitting in his open top sports car!

Now I'm not suggesting for a minute that there is anything wrong with either of these churches, but its a strange message to send out..

I suppose situations like Victory Church come to mind..
