    Hi guys,

Hope I have asked this question in the right section, if not could the mods please move it to where it should go?

My question is as follows, il try give a bit of background info so it might make things clearer.

I bought my house in Jan 2011, it is a rural estate in north co. Dublin. it came with gas heating which is supplied by calor gas by meter at the front door which I believe is filled periodicaly somewhere on site.

When I first purchased the house I did not take out a contract with calor for a number of reasons, the price, the fact it was a 5yr minimum contract and the fact that all neighbors who had previously signed up were paying huge bills as such I asked calor to remove their meter.

My house came with a MYNUTE 25HE boiler and it was set up to feed off the metered gas but has never been used.

We have a solid fuel stove that does a pretty good job at heating the house but my partner would like to get gas for topping up the heat / as back up.

I do not want to take a contract out with calor for the metered gas so wanted to see about other waysto get a gas supply to the MYNUTE 25HE.

I was thinking of getting the large bottles / cylinders of lpg and having them out back and connecting it to the boiler that way (i would not be doing the work myself I'd be getting a reg plumber to do it)

My partner rang two plumbers and asked them could this be done (she didnt tell them the type of boiler as she didn't know the name at the time) both said no can't be done its a different gas supply you need a different boiler.

My understanding is that the metered supply lpg is propane and propane does come in the large bottle cylinders, even if the metered gas was butane the MYNUTE 25HE instruction manual at point 10.3 makes reference to the fact that the gas supply can be changed with some parts swapped.

Finally my question for you guys

    1) Can the MYNUTE 25HE be set up to take cyclinder lpg gas either propane or butane

    2) if the MYNUTE 25HE needs to be converted to another gas type can it be done and at what kind of price should I expect

    3) if it can be done what kind of price could I expect to pay to have the whole job done ie changed over from metered to bottled gas

    4) if it is not against the forum charter would any plumbers working in the north co. Dublin area like to pm me to arrange geting a qoute for the job?

Thanks for any help / advice yas can give

    1) Yes the boiler could be run from bottles manifolded outside the property in a correct location but may need some re-piping to get it connected, depending on the site from cylinders to boiler and existing pipework etc, a site visit would be required.
(expensive way to do it though fuel wise)

    2) If it was running on propane anyway, little or no adjustment would be required, just a commissioning of the appliance

    3) You'd need a site visit to get an accurate quote from someone

    4) Few of the guys here are that area, JK etc, sure they would be happy to contact you PM for meeting/quotes

    Thanks for the info DGOBS,

Yeah I thought it would be doable.

Yep I know the unit price of lpg bottled would likely be more epensive than metered but I really don't want to be tied into a 5yr contract and standing charges etc if I can avoid it.

The boiler is in the kitchen on the back wall and right behind the back wall is a perfect spot to place the bottles so I'm guessing there hopefully won't be much work needed to be done / expense involved.

Hopefully one of the guys ya mentioned will be interested in pm about a site visit / qoute

    Thanks again for the reply

I agree for sure it can be done but you would need to make sure the bottles are sized for the gas take off to prevent freezing of the gas.
The second issue would be mixing the solid fuel water with the gas boiler. The Mynute HE is a sealed system boiler & solid fuel open vented. So something like the Firebird HTT would be a good choice to separate the systems, i.e. gas pressurised & solid fuel open vented.
