i have a 2001 n16 1.5 petrol almera that i think the timing chain needs replacing(strecthed i suspect- bad idling, rev counter flicker throughout rev range, light on dash, bad on mpg) ,its a mint car and only for that i wouldent even think about doing it,i would just scrap it!!
so how many hours does it take to change it?i would guess 1 day total and how much would a mechanic(not main dealer!) charge for this if i supplied the timimg chain kit?

also i believe its a simple job to check the protrusion of the cam chain tensioner,ie if its more than 10mm out the chain needs replacing -can someone tell me how to do this please that way i can be sure it is the chain needs changing?
    thanks guys
