Splint caused change in bite?

I have been wearing a soft split for around 3 years due to TMJ/bruxism issues (soft split because I couldn't afford the hard one and dentist reassured me that the soft one wouldn't make anything worse and would save my teeth - all lies). I noticed earlier this year that my bite had changed so that now when I close my mouth, my bottom teeth dig into the back of my front teeth and some of my molars sort of gnash together when I eat, which is uncomfortable. I mentioned this to the dentist and he pretty much dismissed me.

Now I am changing dentist due to this (god knows why I didn't change earlier, didn't realise how easy it was) but is there anything I can do about it? I've had a look online and it looks like both soft and hard splints can cause this to happen.

I am right at the end of my tether with my teeth and I just want to cry. I had perfect teeth until about 4 years ago when I got my wisdom teeth removed. I ended up losing a molar instead of one of my wisdom teeth (dentist reckoned wisdom tooth was too close to nerve and so too risky). I got dry socket with the wisdom tooth that was removed, I had persistent crunching when I opened my mouth (still have that), I started bruxing, which I'd never done before (most likely a result of the teeth removal and trauma) and which I still do - it disrupts my sleep and causes constant jaw pain, now my bite has changed and I have a horrible wrinkle/crease on one of my nasolabial lines which I think was probably caused by the bruxism/splint.

It is actually starting to ruin my life. I'm angry with my dentist (why even mention a soft split if it's not at all useful for my condition) and myself for not noticing all this sooner. It just came on so slowly that I didn't even realise for a long time. As I'm not that vain, I don't spend much time looking in the mirror so only noticed this horrific facial crease the other day after seeing a picture on Facebook.

    What can I do?
