Website and search engine

Hi all, techno bimbo here....well a bit. I have designed my own Free website but i dont know how to keep it high in search engines. Meta tags??? i know i need to do some minor changes but cant figure it out. havent a clue what meta tags are etc. Any advice would be great or if someone could look at the site and settings…
